MCAA President Michael Brandt welcomed everyone, and Career Development Committee Chair Jon Finch reviewed plans for the event, which includes a variety of education, the debut of a new Student Chapter Presidents Advisory Council, a job fair and a tour of Southland Industries.

The 2018 GreatFutures Forum will be the kick off for the new MCAA Student Chapter Presidents Advisory Council. The council will be composed of MCAA Student Chapter Presidents, created to help advise the MCAA Career Development Committee of student issues and concerns, and be a resource for MCAA’s GreatFutures planning. The committee will look to these students for innovations and improvements to the program.

Marjorie Banda, a freshman in Ferris State University’s HVACR program, was the recipient of this year’s MSCA Scholarship in recognition of her scholastic achievement. In a thank you letter to MSCA Executive Director Barbara Dolim, Marjorie said, “I am truly grateful for the financial support that I have received from you as an organization. It will definitely make a big difference and leave a mark that will be with me as long as I live. I am motivated to work even harder in school and obtain my HVACR Bachelor’s Degree.”

Members of the MCA of Metro Washington Young Leaders Program were given the opportunity to tour the latest expansion project at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. MCAA member company Kirlin Mid-Atlantic graciously led the tour, where peers were able to learn about the hydronic systems and the integration of new equipment that will help power the new portion of the building.

Hundreds of contractors from across the U.S. and Canada traveled to Buffalo for the Fabrication Conference (May 9 – 11, 2018). The conference, which focused on cutting-edge fabrication applications, included tours of three John W. Danforth Company fabrication facilities. “Hosting this national conference was an honor for us,” said Robert Beck, Danforth president and a member of the MCAA board of directors. “At Danforth, we have always aimed to stay at the leading edge of our industry, so we were excited to showcase our workforce and the work that we do.”
The 2018 MCAA Student Competition brought together future leaders of our industry on the main stage of the convention.
